In which I have listened and learned

Thank you for your suggestions for reducing the frump factor in my nautical outfit.

I knew you ladies of style and substance would have some words of wisdom for me!

I would love a red beret set at a jaunty angle - but I don't have one. Nor a red cardi or jacket.

But I've added a little brooch, tucked in the end of the belt, unearthed some red tights, and lightened the trotters with white T-bars.

And I have turned up the hem of the skirt by about an inch, only pinned as yet, might take it up a bit more yet.

I feel better. Can you tell?

It's not odd that I dressed up again in the same outfit, but with your suggested adaptatons, is it?
I knew you'd understand.

This is what I really wore today.

1970s Lerose maxi dress (Ebay), InWear mohair wrap cardigan (flea market), Jones boots (Ebay), Jennie's necklace (again), beaded charm bracelet (birthday gift)

The dress was too big on the top (not a problem I often encounter) so I took it in, but very shoddily, hence it can only be worn with something over the top. I told you I was slapdash.

Look, I'm showing you my skirt, right, and if you don't like it, I'll have this face like a slapped arse for the rest of the day.

                                                            Twirly whirly.

I love how you darlings are full of ideas and constructive styling advice. I trust your judgment, and I will doubtless be calling on your expertise again.

Who needs Trinny, Susannah, Gok or anyone else when you've got the blogging community to help?

You rock! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh YES! Definitely better. Even though I only just added my comment and you obviously photographed your changes earlier I feel justified as my suggestions were backed up by people who are actually stylish! You did the bright tights and MJs thing I thought would work (awards self mental stylist points)

And as for today's outfit - just lovely missus. The drape and material on the dress is lovely and I'm a bit smitten with the cardigan. So very pretty. And kind of Elvish. (we've been reading Tolkien)

What a difference the subtle changes made, really added that edge, which is definitely required when you don't feel quite 'right' in an outfit.
Only this morning, I knew the perfect scarf was hidden in the airing cupboard, one to compliment my tights. The ensuing search meant the whole morning routine was jeopardized, but you can't leave the house without the finishing touch, can you?

The maxi/ cardi/wrap - 10/10. Love the colour with the new hair shade, the fit, pattern, I want to lose weight right now, just so I can look for a similar outfit.

YAY! Much better and not frumpy in the slightest - I reckon you could even take that super cute skirt another couple of inches shorter.

LOVE your maxi with the green wrap cardi - lovely deep muted tones look fab with your new hair colour. You're beautiful!

Love! Sarah xxx

I love it with the red tights! I often do the cover up tricks with cardies. If a dress won't quite do up I hide it with a cardie but shhhhh thats my little secret.

Much more you, funky and fabulous and doesn't your hair look fabulously glossy? Are you used to it now?
I'd love to see that skirt a tad shorter and maybe a trim of red ribbon or rik-rak at the hem.
That second outfit is beautiful. I love the print of the dress and the wrap top. I think your wrap overs are the equivalent of my waistcoats, they make everything feel a bit more "me".
Great transformation without the need for slimming knickers or a beige pencil skirt. Bloggers rule. xxxxxx

Yep yep yep (I've just said this on Kylie's blog and liked it so much that I'm saying it again). Love the first look much better today. I'm with the others who say the skirt could be turned up a little more.

Loving the 2nd outfit too. Yes, I know all about "slapdash". I think "slapdash" and "wonky" pretty much sum up my approach to alterations and crafting. Never mind.....

Have a great day!!xx

Loving it now the hint of red and white show has funked it up and it looks great. I still think you could go a bit shorted with the hem. Loving your dress today you look gorgeous. dee xx
